VEL Tech Engineering College was established in the Academic Year of 2002. VEL Tech Engineering is affiliated to Anna University. The college is approved by AICTE offering 4 year B.E./B.Tech Programmes in EEE, ECE, CSE, IT, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical & Bio-Tech, and also offers 2 year PG Programmes leading to conferment of MBA& MCA degrees. The demand for miniaturization of domestic and commercial products and with reduced cost has increased the requirement of personals specialised in micro electronics. This raised the needs of introducing a course which can satisfy the above requirements and can develop new methodologies and technologies to cater the needs. Hence the University introduced a 2 year PG course on VLSI in association with Center for Development of Advanced Computing ( CDAC) who are considered to be pioneers in the field of Micro electronics. This course has differentiated from its traditional VLSI course because on the emphasis given to the latest technologies such as MEMS,NEMS and teaching the students to use un orthodox and environmental friendly materials such as plastics, carbon fibres, gold fibres in the fabrication of integrated circuits. This course tries to not only develop students who can be an employee but also students who can employee.
